Advanced Analytics - Adobe Workfront

Role

Lead UX Designer

Overview

Advanced Analytics in Adobe Workfront provides prebuilt visualizations that allow users to analyze project data, identify trends, and enhance planning and execution. This tool helps users efficiently manage ongoing work and plan for future tasks.

Problem Statement

Managers often spend over 40 hours per quarter creating reports and answering questions, which limits their productivity, hinders decision-making, and complicates communication with leadership.

Key Assumption

Managers need direct access to detailed operational insights without relying on admins for report generation.

Discovery

Initial Research:

We engaged with target users early in the process to understand the key metrics used by work managers for project management and trend analysis across large organizations.

Participants:

  • Work/Project Managers

  • Workfront Admins

Findings & Synthesis

Through customer interviews, we identified recurring themes and questions users sought to answer through reports. We categorized these into epics, guiding our ideation for potential views and features.

Design Process

Sketches & Conceptualization We developed initial sketches and concepts to visualize potential solutions.

Design & Delivery Schedule Epics were grouped into release milestones, enabling incremental feature delivery, testing, iteration, and enhancement.

Final Solution

We launched with a dashboard offering templated views, empowering users to manage their work more effectively.

Outcomes & Learnings

Post-GA, Advanced Analytics was showcased at Workfront’s LEAP conference, achieving our goal of providing quick data insights for common project management queries. As a relatively inexperienced designer, this project was a significant learning experience for me, providing valuable insights into the design process and user needs. While the initial release was well-received, further customization was frequently requested. Specifically, integrating unique custom fields into our dashboards could have significantly enhanced the tool's utility, offering users more tailored and relevant insights.

This feedback led to a comprehensive redesign of Adobe Workfront's primary reporting tool, in which I played a key role. The redesign aimed to incorporate the customization features that users desired, making the tool more flexible and user-centric.
